Isn’t it fabulous when you discover that what is good for the Earth is also good for you! It turns out, that when you invest in top notch farming practices (pasture raised animals and non-GMO feed) there are benefits not just for the animals and the land, but also for you and your families’ health. Check it out:
Animals raised on grass have increased Vitamin E, beta-carotene, and Vitamin C. Plants are known to be rich in antioxidants. That means animals raised on pasture consuming grass and forage are going to pass that enhanced nutrition to us.
Pastured animals are higher in Omega-3. The modern American diet has emphasized increased Omega 6 fatty acids in food. When you switch to pasture raised or grass fed products, which are higher in Omega 3 fatty acids, you are helping to correct the gross imbalance in the western diet. Eating a balanced ratio of essential fatty acids is linked with a lower risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and mental disorders.
Pigs raised on pasture are much higher in Vitamin D because they receive sunlight. Vitamin D is best known for its role in building strong bones. New research shows that it can also enhance the immune system, improve mood, reduce blood pressure, combat cancer, and reduce the risk of some autoimmune disorders.
Our pigs are not fed antibiotics. In factory farms, antibiotics are added to conventional feed because they live in a crowded and dirty environment that promotes pathogens. One study from John Hopkins also suggested that antibiotics in feed may contribute to antibiotic resistance, which is an increasingly alarming concern. One example is the bacteria MRSA (an antibiotic resistant strain of bacteria often a problem in hospitals) that has been traced back to originating in hog factory farms.
Roam Sticks are naturally fermented. Our heritage pork is fermented with lactic acid starter culture and organic dextrose, made from organic cassava root (also known as tapioca.) The dextrose is used to activate the natural fermentation process (not to sweeten). This creates millions of probiotic, beneficial bacteria. The fermentation and smoking process keep Roam Sticks shelf stable so you can take them with you wherever you go.
